Being Authentic with our Challenges

6/29/2017

The challenges we face are often self-inflicted and self-restraining. Being authentic enables one to recognise and accept our existing reality. It also enables us to see the gap between this existing reality and where we really want to be. The identification of this gap is the first step to address our challenges. Lose those shackles and enjoy the process!

Here are the 5 steps to start being authentic with our challenges:
  1. Be non-judgmental of yourself and other: Being judgmental can put us in a state of self-denial as we refuse to accept our current reality.
  2. Focus on getting the best out of the situation: When we focus on how we want to make the best of what the situation presents us with, we essentially shift our gear away from negativity and towards one of positivity and action.
  3. Take ourselves out of the equation: If this was someone else's issue, what advice would you have given? When we are too emotionally involved with the situation, it can be hard to see things from a macro perspective.
  4. Be open, vulnerable, and willing to accept the trust and support from others: Many people are more than willing to lend a helping hand and listening ear, if we are ready to share and seek their support. When we share it with others, we see things from different perspectives, we get new insights and ideas, and also receive sufficient encouragement and confidence to take action.
  5. Take the first step: One can never be prepared enough, so just take the first step to embrace your challenge. Often times you'd be surprised by the results and experience you get. Thereafter, you'd realise that nothing is too big for you to handle.
