VIA is meant to build character. Community Bridges supports students in practising the harder skills in the safety of their own peer group before they go into the community. Student learn to sit with someone else's story, hold their own discomfort, and show up for others because they have actually learned how to connect.
Community Bridges is built on Growthbeans' SECOND framework
Sense
Students build self-awareness first. Coaching principles cultivate the self-directedness and psychological safety students need before they can be present for someone else.
Connect
Perspective-taking, common humanity, gratitude in practice. Students learn to hold space for a peer's story before they're asked to hold space for others.
Do
Learning becomes real through experience. Students co-design their own activities, lead them in the community and reflect on what actually happened.
